The (short) history of Steel
Steel Brew Co begins brewing beers Mantra, NEIPA, Chairman Meow and Black & Tan in a home garage.
2018
Firestone and Plymouth become award winning brews.
2019
2021
Brewing operations moved and taproom opened in the Melville Building at Royal William Yard.
We moved into our current home (The Mills Bakery) in Royal William Yard.
2020
Saved from liquidation by new owners and becomes Steel Brew.

Steel Brew is proudly nestled within the iconic Royal William Yard in Plymouth. Designed by the renowned architect Sir John Rennie and constructed between 1826 and 1835, this magnificent former naval victualling yard stands as one of the most important groups of historic military buildings in Britain, and indeed, the largest collection of Grade I listed military buildings in Europe. Its stunning Georgian architecture and profound maritime history provide a truly unique and inspiring backdrop for our brewery.
Being part of this thriving cultural hub not only offers a distinctive atmosphere for our visitors but also fuels our creativity, intertwining the spirit of Plymouth’s past with the contemporary craft beer movement. Our location ensures visitors can easily find us and immerse themselves in both our brewing process and the Yard’s incredible charm, a place where history comes alive with modern vibrancy.
